BUSTLING BRIELLE

Bustling Brielle has many popular, annual events. The best-known are the 1st of April celebrations, the Liberation Festival and Brielle Blues. You really mustn't miss them!

FIRST TO BE LIBERATED

There's a traditional rhyme which says that Alba lost Brielle on the 1st of April. Brielle's liberation by the Sea Beggars on 1 April 1572 has been celebrated annually for centuries, in a festive and appropriate manner in the town.

CELEBRATE FREEDOM!

The annual Brielle Liberation Festival takes place at the beginning of May. During this five-day event you can experience the history of World War II and the liberation.

Brielle Blues

By now, Brielle Blues has won itself an important place among the blues festivals in the Netherlands.

Food truck festival

Enjoy the most delicious dishes from a colourful collection of food trucks on the Brielle ramparts; toast the weekend with friends and family or dance with your colleagues in front of the rolling stage.

Matthäus Passion

Bach's best-known and longest oratorio is performed at Easter at more than a hundred locations in the Netherlands. Sint-Catherijnekerk in Brielle forms a beautiful setting.

Big Band Festival

The Jumbo Big Band Festival in Brielle is an annual jazz event, organised by Brielle's Kunst en Cultuur foundation, that takes place on the 3rd Saturday in September.

Summer markets

There are summer markets in Brielle town centre on various days every summer. Stalls are set up in Voorstraat, Nobelstraat and sometimes the Turfkade too.
